Fully-funded PhD students wanted

I will join the National University of Singapore in the summer of 2024 and am recruiting two PhD students (with full scholarships) starting from January or July 2025. Please find more details about my research areas and applications for PhD students in Architecture at NUS as below.

In the next five years, my work will focus on the behavior and governance aspects of sustainable, smart, and equitable cities/communities in Asia and the United States. Potential projects include: examining electric vehicle policies on vehicle adoption in China,  text analysis and interviews with practitioners to understand electric vehicle policies in large cities in the United States and Singapore, understanding factors related to electric vehicle adoption in Asia, and using first-and second-hand data to understand travel behavior and technology usage of older Singaporeans and Americans.

I have rich experience working with students of all levels. I love working with students and exploring exiting topics with students.

The following requirements might make you a great candidate to work with me:

  • A master’s degree in urban planning, civil engineering, public policy, social work, public health, or other relevant disciplines.
  •  Good time management and multi-tasking skills;
  • Passion/interest in one or more topics above;
  • Excellent spoken and written English;
  • Highly motived and with independent working ability;
  • Statistical knowledge and command at least one of the following programming languages: R/Stata/Python. 
  • Knowledge in spatial analysis and spatial statistics;
  • Research experience in environmental planning/transportation planning/healthy cities.

Preferred skills:

  • Experience of using large-scale data sets, like smartphone data, smart card data, or large-scale administrative data;
  • Experience of using network analysis;
  • Experience of using text analysis to understand large text data sets;
  • Excellent communication and experience in interviewing in English;
  •  Experience in interdisciplinary collaborations and research.
